Calgary, Alberta (My Sportsbook) - The
Calgary Flames will try and stall a three-game losing streak tonight when they host the
New York Rangers.
Calgary, which was shutout by the Rangers a week ago, is coming off a 2-1 loss to the Atlanta Thrashers on Monday.
Jamie McLennan stopped 23 shots for Calgary and Chris Clark tallied the lone goal for the Flames, who finished 0-for-6 on the power play.
Calgary has not scored with the man-advantage in its last four games (0- for-15) and has not tallied a power play goal since Craig Conroy scored in the first period against the New York Islanders back on November 4.
Jarome Iginla, who has not scored in six games, assisted on Clark's goal and is one helper shy of 200 for his NHL career. Last season's scoring champ has struggled in the early portion of the season trying to find the net. In 16 games Iginla has scored just three goals and has recorded 10 assists.
The Rangers come into Thursday's game after a gritty 5-4 win over San Jose on Monday.
Rem Murray scored a pair of goals and added an assist as New York held on for the win at the Shark Tank. Ronald Petrovicky, Brian Leetch and Ted Donato also scored for the Rangers, who have won three of their last four.
Dan Blackburn made 33 saves for New York, which halted a three-game road losing streak. The young netminder got his third consecutive start in place of Mike Richter, who was kicked in the head last Tuesday against Edmonton.
Blackburn, who picked up his first career shutout last week versus the Flames, will once again be between the pipes tonight for the Blueshirts.
One person who could make his return to the lineup is free agent acquisition Bobby Holik, who has missed eight games because of a hip flexor. However, Eric Lindros, scoreless in his last 13 games, could miss the game after coming down with a sudden case of the flu.
Lindros' linemate, Pavel Bure, has also struggled lately and is scoreless in his last seven games.
The final period has been an Achilles' heel for the Rangers this season, as they have not scored a third period goal in the past eight games. In the same time frame they've given up nine goals in those eight games in the final 20 minutes. Surprisingly enough only two were game winners. They also have won two overtime tilts in that span.
New York has won three of the last four meetings, but is just 1-9-4 in the last 14 games at the Saddledome.
