Chicago, IL (My Sportsbook) - The Chicago White Sox and first baseman Paul Konerko agreed to terms Thursday on a three-year contract through the 2005 season. Financial details were not disclosed. The 26-year-old Konerko batted a career-high .304 in 2002 with 27 home runs and 104 RBI in 151 games for the White Sox. The All-Star finished second on the team in hits (173), doubles (30), slugging percentage (.498), total bases (284), average and RBI and was third in home runs and runs scored (81). "Paul is a key member of this team both on and off the field, and our focus has been on signing him to a multiyear contract," said assistant general manager Rick Hahn. "He is one of the top hitters in the game, has been extremely consistent over the past four seasons, and is a major influence and leader in our clubhouse. Paul brings a very professional, intense approach to the ballpark each day, and we are pleased to have him under contract through 2005." Konerko has spent the last four seasons with Chicago after being acquired from Cincinnati for Mike Cameron on November 11, 1998. He is a lifetime .287 hitter with 111 home runs and 410 RBI in 673 games with the Dodgers, Reds and White Sox. Meanwhile, the club also agreed to terms with catcher Mark Johnson on a one- year contract. The 27-year-old Johnson batted .209 with four homers and 18 RBI in 86 games for the White Sox in 2002. Johnson is a lifetime .222 hitter with 16 home runs and 76 RBI in 302 contests with Chicago from 1998-2002.
