Surprise, AZ (My Sportsbook) - The Kansas City Royals signed pitcher Juan Cruz to a two-year contract on Saturday. The deal also includes a club option for 2011. The right-hander has been used as both a reliever and starter in his eight seasons in the majors. In 2008, the 30-year-old appeared in 57 games out of the bullpen for Arizona, going 4-0 with a career-best 2.61 earned run average. He also fanned 71 in just 51 2/3 innings. In 297 career games -- 38 starts -- with the Cubs, Braves, Athletics and Diamondbacks, Cruz has compiled a 29-31 record with a 4.00 ERA and 535 strikeouts in 515 innings. To make room on the roster, the Royals designated infielder Esteban German for assignment.
