Edmonton, AB (My Sportsbook) - Edmonton team captain Ethan Moreau suffered a scary high-sticking incident with 20 seconds left in the Oilers' 3-2 win against Minnesota Saturday evening. Moreau caught a high-stick flush in his right eye after Minnesota's Antii Miettinen had his blade inadvertently thrust up after stepping on Moreau's foot. Moreau stayed on his stomach for a stretch before being helped to the locker room. He was taken to Royal Alexandria Hospital, which specializes in optometry. "The stick looks like it gashed the socket and the doctors said it raked across the eyeball. It looks pretty serious," Oilers head coach Craig MacTavish said following the game. Miettinen was assessed a double-minor on the play. The 33-year-old Moreau is participating in his 13th NHL season and has 12 goals with 11 assists for 23 points thus far in 2008-09. The veteran left wing is in his ninth season with Edmonton after coming over from Chicago in a March 20, 1999 trade along with Daniel Cleary, Chad Kilger and Christian Laflamme in exchange for Dean McAmmond, Boris Mironov and Jonas Elofsson. In 771 career games with the Oilers and Blackhawks, the Huntsville, Ontario native has accumulated 134 goals and 122 assists for 256 points.
