St. Paul, MN (My Sportsbook) - The Minnesota Wild re-signed goaltender Niklas Backstrom on Tuesday, to a four-year deal worth $24 million which should keep him with the club through the 2012-13 season. "Nik is one of the most reliable players and people on our team, and that combination enables winning," said Wild general manager Doug Risebrough. "A snapshot of Nik's three NHL seasons shows a staggering run of success, but to see that whole picture unfold daily, we have not been surprised. We are proud of what he has accomplished, and are excited for what he will." The 31-year-old Finn is 28-18-4 with a 2.24 goals-against average and a team- record six shutouts thus far this season -- numbers which earned him an All- Star berth in January. Over three seasons, all with Minnesota, Backstrom has compiled an 84-39-18 record with a 2.19 GAA and 15 shutouts in 144 career starts. In 2006-07, Backstrom and current Bruins netminder Manny Fernandez teamed up to win the Jennings Trophy for allowing a league-low 191 goals in 82 games.
