(My Sportsbook) - The Cardinals have lost three straight games following their 27-6 setback to the
Seattle Seahawks in Week 10. Over the past two weeks, Arizona has been outscored 54-20 and the playoff thoughts that surfaced earlier this season have faded in a hurry. Last Sunday, the Cardinals turned the ball over five times -- three by QB Jake Plummer. The careless offense got little help from its defensive counterparts, as the Seahawks racked up 406 total yards of offense.
Top WR David Boston suffered a season-ending injury in Week 9, which will force the Cardinals to search for a new go-to-guy. No one will be able to take Boston's place, but impressive rookie WR Jason McAddley should get every chance to be the man.
"We have to get geared up after a performance that didn't sit well with anyone," said coach Dave McGinnis. "We've got to go get something done in Philadelphia. They are probably feeling the same way because they had just about a mirror image of what went on here, and I promise you from this end, you don't feel good about it."
There aren't many teams in the NFL that could be able to overcome five turnovers. And when a mediocre club commits that many mistakes, a loss is sure to follow. For the Cardinals, last week's loss to the Seahawks illustrated that fact to perfection. Plummer and RB Marcel Shipp combined for three fumbles inside Seattle's 10-yard line. All three were recovered by the Seahawks.
"It was ugly," Plummer said. "It just kept getting worse and worse."
Statistically, the numbers were encouraging for the Cardinals, but even a career-high 113 yards from McAddley couldn't make up for the loss of injured number one receiver Boston. Plummer continued his interception problems, firing two picks last week to give him six INTs in the past three games.
What the Cardinals need to accomplish this week is obvious, holding onto the football against an Eagle defense that ranks fourth in the NFC with a plus-7 turnover margin. Philly has seven interceptions and 11 fumble takeaways on the year.
If the Cards, who are just plus-1 in turnover margin, can't prevent turnovers this week, Philadelphia's many athletic defenders will take full advantage.
Even after last week's collapse, the Eagles are still one of the top defenses in the conference. Plummer's penchant for picks could be disastrous on Sunday, since CB Troy Vincent and S Brian Dawkins are eager to regain their elite status.
