(My Sportsbook) - Tracy McGrady and the
Orlando Magic let the
Los Angeles Clippers score virtually at will on Sunday. So when the Magic traveled to Los Angeles on Thursday night, the wound was still fresh. The Magic were hell bent on redemption and McGrady made sure they got it.
McGrady had 35 points Thursday night in a 101-80 victory over the Clippers.
"We were a little upset because we had that game won. It's a game we let slip away," said McGrady. "And not only to pay them back for last Sunday, but because this is the first game of a long road trip, so this was the most important game of the trip."
McGrady shot 14-of-26 from the field, including 3-of-6 from behind the arc. He also added two blocks and six rebounds for good measure. After being a porous defensive unit on Sunday, the Magic were smothering on Thursday. Orlando turned 19 Los Angeles turnovers into 26 points.
"I'm pleased with the way we played defense and rebounded," McGrady added. "That's what killed us in the games we lost. Tonight we were aggressive on both ends of the floor."
The Clippers' Corey Maggette drew the unenviable job of trying to slow down McGrady.
"McGrady's a great player," Maggette admitted. "I just wanted to try to slow him down, but Tracy's one of the best players in the league."
The Magic made 8-of-20 from behind the arc. Los Angeles made just 3-of-13 from three-point land, and only managed 13 points off 15 Orlando turnovers.
Grant Hill added 17 points and nine rebounds to the victory, and Pat Garrity chipped in with 14 points off the pine.
MILLER ON THE MEND
Mike Miller is hoping his sprained left ankle will be strong enough to play on Sunday against the Sacramento Kings. Miller is understandably cautious, after the trouble he had with his ankle last season.
"I don't want to rush back," said Miller, who sprained the ankle against Toronto Tuesday night and missed Thursday's game against the Clippers. "I rushed back last year, and it caused that whole thing to happen."
Miller missed 14 of the final 20 games last season because of an injury to the same left ankle and was hampered during the playoffs.
The injury does not appear to be as serious as last season, but Miller and coach Doc Rivers will likely err on the side of caution.
