(My Sportsbook) - The
Los Angeles Lakers were without Shaquille O'Neal when the Hawks came to town on Tuesday. Atlanta was not sympathetic.
Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored 26 points to lead the Hawks to a 95-83 win. The victory closed a 2-3 road trip for Atlanta.
Ira Newble contributed 14 points and tough defense on Kobe Bryant. Bryant was held to 8-for-22 shooting from the field. Newble also had seven rebounds and four assists. Jason Terry scored 17 of his 21 in the second half.
"We knew we had a good chance," Terry said, referring to the fact that O'Neal was sidelined. "We've got great post players inside, and Shareef really took advantage of them not having Shaq inside to clog things up."
The Hawks nearly squandered a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter, but held on for the victory.
Abdur-Rahim was thankful that O'Neal's foot took a little extra time to heal.
"With the big fella being out, we felt we had a big advantage inside, and we tried to show that," Abdur-Rahim said. "A lot of things changed because of that."
COURT DATE FOR BIG DOG
Glenn Robinson appeared in Cook County (Ill.) Circuit Court Thursday to set a trial date for the domestic dispute he was involved in over the summer.
Robinson, 29, was charged in July with misdemeanor counts of domestic battery, assault and unlawful possession of a firearm after police said he pushed Jonta French, the mother of his young daughter, and demanded to be let into her suburban Chicago house. Allegedly, he was intoxicated.
Robinson has entered a not-guilty plea, and he has been remorseful and apologetic since the incident.
"I hope we get this done sooner than later," said Robinson's attorney, George Murtaugh.
Shortly after the incident, the Milwaukee Bucks traded Robinson to the Hawks for Toni Kukoc, Leon Smith and a first-round pick next June. Robinson scored 30 points or more in each of his first three games with Atlanta, but has cooled off since and is averaging 22.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists.
COMING UP
Atlanta plays five of its next six games at home, with its lone road game at Boston. Four of the six games are against Eastern Conference rivals: New Orleans, Boston (twice) and Toronto. In between, the Hawks will also face Seattle and Minnesota.
