Anaheim, CA (My Sportsbook) - Pedro Martinez tries to win his sixth straight decision and his 10th of the season this evening when the
Boston Red Sox continue their four-game series with the Anaheim Angels at Angel Stadium.
Martinez's latest win came on July 7 against the Oakland Athletics, as he allowed three runs - two earned - on five hits in seven innings. He also struck out seven and walked one to improve to 9-3 on the season, while lowering his earned run average to 3.67.
The 32-year-old righthander, who declined a trip to Tuesday's All-Star Game, is 5-0 over his last nine starts and has not lost since falling to the Toronto Blue Jays back on May 16.
The three-time Cy Young Award winner, who received a no-decision against the Angels earlier in the year, is 8-1 lifetime against them with a 2.06 ERA in 12 starts.
Anaheim will pin its hopes on righthander Kelvim Escobar, who is 5-5 on the year with a 3.91 ERA. He earned the win in his final start before the break on Saturday against the Blue Jays, as he allowed two runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Escobar has faced the Red Sox 31 times in his career - seven starts - and is 5-5 against them with a 5.17 ERA.
In the series-opener on Thursday, Jarrod Washburn delivered his second straight stellar outing and Chone Figgins posted three hits and three runs batted in, as the Angels rolled to an 8-1 win.
Kevin Millar scored the only run for Boston, which had won five of six heading into the All-Star break. However, the Red Sox now trail the New York Yankees by eight games in the AL East.
Boston, which will play the second leg of a six-game road tip tonight, is 18-24 outside Fenway Park this season. Anaheim is 23-18 at home this season.
The Angels swept a two-game series from Boston in Anaheim earlier in the season and hold a slight 7-5 advantage in the last 12 overall meetings.
