Vancouver, BC (My Sportsbook) - Corey Perry scored the only goal in the shootout as the Anaheim Ducks improved their playoff chances by beating the Canucks, 6-5, ending Vancouver's franchise-record 11-game home winning streak.
Teemu Selanne and Bobby Ryan each scored twice for the Ducks, who have won three in a row and eight of their last nine. They've also captured five straight on the road, and with 86 points are in seventh in the Western Conference, a point ahead of St. Louis and just two in front of ninth-place Nashville. The Ducks are also two points behind sixth-place Columbus.
The Ducks have four games remaining, starting with a home-and-home set against NHL-leading San Jose, followed by a home game against Dallas and finishing the regular season on the road against Phoenix.
Jonas Hiller stopped 25 shots for Anaheim, which also received a goal from Perry in regulation.
Twin brothers Daniel and Henrik Sedin each had a goal and two assists for the Canucks, who are tied with Calgary with 94 points for the lead in the Northwest Division. The Flames, though, hold the tiebreaker currently with two more wins.
Roberto Luongo made 27 saves for Vancouver, which had a three-game win streak broken. This marked the Canucks' first home loss since January 31 against Minnesota.
"We made a couple of mistakes tonight and they just seem to make us pay every time we do," Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa said. "I think defensively we wanted a better effort."
Vancouver has five regular season contests remaining, starting at Edmonton on Saturday.
The teams combined for 10 goals through the first two periods, but then the stalemate continued in the third period with each team registering nine shots in the final regulation stanza.
Then in overtime, Daniel Sedin was robbed by Hiller just 54 seconds in, and Hiller stopped him again on a possible redirection in the last minute.
The teams played a 13-round shootout on October 31 with the Canucks pulling out a 7-6 win, but this time it was over rather quickly. Vancouver's Pavol Demitra hit the left post with the first try, and Perry then scored by sneaking a forehand between the netminder's pads.
Hiller stopped Kyle Wellwood with his pad and turned away Alex Burrows with a glove save to end the game.
Selanne and Ryan scored 1:16 apart in the opening period, but Vancouver came back with the next four goals. Henrik Sedin started it at 15:29 of the first and Wellwood netted the tying marker with 1:15 left in the period.
Burrows gave the Canucks a 3-2 edge 3:06 into the second on a sharp angle shot from the right side, and Daniel Sedin netted a power play goal 2:12 later.
Ryan's second of the night came 7:36 into the period, but Ryan Kesler restored the two-goal lead at the 10:56 mark.
"When they scored that fourth goal, we kind of had to pick up our socks and get back at it," Perry said. "We talked in the timeout and decided to go play our forechecking game and create some turnovers and get back into it."
Perry scored at 12:02 on a small rebound in front and Selanne put in the equalizer 4:26 later.
