=== New York Mets Team Report - July 16 === (My Sportsbook) - The New York Mets try to move one step closer to first place in the National League East this evening when they continue their four- game series against the Philadelphia Phillies at Shea Stadium. The Mets won the series opener, 3-2 in 11 innings last night, as Roberto Hernandez failed to handle Ty Wigginton's comebacker to the mound with the bases loaded, allowing pinch-runner Vance Wilson to score the winning run. The victory moved New York within a game of Philadelphia and Atlanta for first place in the NL East. The Braves beat Montreal 8-0 on Thursday night to tie the Phillies for the division lead. New York will pin its hopes on South Korean righthander Jae Seo, who is 4-5 on the year with a 4.76 ERA. Scott Erickson was originally slated to make his Mets debut tonight, but the Mets have decided to hold him until Monday. Seo, who has not received a decision in his last two outings, last took the hill last Friday against the Florida Marlins and allowed three runs and seven hits in six frames of his team's 6-3 win. The 27-year-old hurler is 0-2 lifetime against the Phillies with a 2.84 ERA in four starts. The Mets have won nine of their last 11 at home. The Mets hold a 7-3 advantage over the Phillies in the season series. However, Philadelphia has won 11 of its last 16 at Shea Stadium dating back to the 2002 season.
