Detroit, MI (My Sportsbook) - Miguel Cabrera blasted a grand slam and tied a career-high with six RBI, as the Detroit Tigers thumped the Texas Rangers, 15- 2, in the 10th home opener at Comerica Park.

Cabrera had three hits on the day for the Tigers, who had dropped three of their first four games against the Blue Jays. Jeff Larish also homered, while Magglio Ordonez had a pair of hits and two RBI in the win.

Armando Galarraga (1-0), a former Rangers prospect, earned the win after throwing seven strong innings, yielding only a run on five hits and a walk while fanning a career-high eight.

Nelson Cruz belted a home run in the ninth inning for the Rangers, who lost for the first time this season after sweeping Cleveland in a three-game series. Josh Hamilton notched a hit and two walks, while Hank Blalock drove in a run.

Kris Benson (0-1) was roughed up in his first start since 2006, allowing eight runs -- seven earned -- on 10 hits and two walks in five innings pitched. He has not won a game since September 21, 2006, against Detroit, while with Baltimore.

Consecutive singles by Cruz and Marlon Byrd with one out in the second had the Rangers threatening, but Galarraga induced a double play ground ball from Chris Davis, ending the threat.

An errant throw by Texas catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia put Larish on second with one out in the home second, and Gerald Laird, a Ranger in 2008, singled to center to score Larish for an early 1-0 lead.

The Tigers loaded the bases with one out in the third after consecutive singles from Placido Polanco, Ordonez and Cabrera. Carlos Guillen lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to extend the advantage to two.

In the fourth, Brandon Inge lined a one-out single to center and advanced to third on Adam Everett's single to right. Curtis Granderson then launched a fly ball over Cruz's head in right for a double to plate one run, and three batters later Cabrera crushed a pitch over the wall in center for a grand slam and a 7-0 Tigers lead.

Larish hit a leadoff homer in the fifth to make it 8-0.

Blalock's bloop RBI single in the sixth scored Elvis Andrus, who had singled, to put the Rangers on the scoreboard.

Back-to-back bases-loaded walks to Granderson and Polanco, followed by a two- RBI single from Ordonez, gave Detroit a commanding 12-1 lead in the seventh. Cabrera then blasted a double off the left field wall to score two more runs.

An RBI groundout by Everett in the eighth made it 15-1, and Cruz's homer in the ninth capped the scoring.

Game Notes

The Tigers are now 4-6 in home openers at Comerica Park...Benson made his first appearance since September 27, 2006, against the Yankees...Detroit has won six straight over Texas at home...Every Tigers starter had either a hit or an RBI in the game.
