(My Sportsbook) - Former Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay takes aim at a major-league best fourth victory tonight when the
Toronto Blue Jays host the
Texas Rangers in game one of a three-game series at Rogers Centre.
A 31-year-old native of Denver, Colorado, Halladay has gone seven innings for victories in each of his three outings in 2009, defeating Detroit, Cleveland and Minnesota on April 6, 11 and 16, respectively.
Overall in 21 innings, he's allowed 19 hits and seven hits while walking three and striking out 17.
Halladay, a 20-game winner for the second time last season, was 1-1 in a pair of starts against the Rangers last season, while allowing 17 hits and five runs in 18 innings.
For Texas, 25-year-old righty Brandon McCarthy starts for third time in 2009 and seeks win No. 2.
He picked up a win in his debut on April 9 against Cleveland, allowing four hits and three runs over five innings of a 12-8 Texas win. Five days later against Baltimore, McCarthy got a no-decision after a six- inning effort in which he allowed five hits and three runs.
McCarthy last started against Toronto in 2007, going 1-2 in three outings, while allowing 14 hits and eight runs in 15 innings.
On Sunday in Arlington, Michael Young belted a solo homer to left- center field in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Rangers to a 6-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals in the finale of a three-game set.
Ian Kinsler also had a solo homer for the Rangers, whilFrank Francisco (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth frame to collect the win.
In Toronto, Lyle Overbay drove in the lone run of the game and Ricky Romero pitched seven solid innings as the Blue Jays edged the Oakland Athletics, 1-0, in the rubber match of a three-game series.
Romero (2-0) was brilliant over seven innings in earning the win. The left- hander scattered four hits, struck out six and walked two. The Blue Jays bullpen allowed only one hit in the final two frames. B.J. Ryan picked up his second save of the season.
Kevin Millar scored the only run of the game for Toronto, which has won four straight series to start a season for the first time since 2001.
Texas split its eight games with the Blue Jays last season and is 9-9 in its last 18 matchups against them.
