Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - The
Boston Bruins will shoot for their fifth straight win tonight when they kick off a brief two-game road trip in Philadelphia, where they will faceoff with the Flyers at the First Union Center.
Glen Murray had a goal and an assist and John Grahame made 30 saves to help Boston to a 4-1 win over the New York Islanders at the FleetCenter on Thursday.
Joe Thornton, P.J. Axelsson and Brian Rolston also scored for the Bruins, who sit atop the Eastern Conference standings with 25 points (11-2-2-1).
Boston has not won five in a row since December 20-28, 2001. Over its recent streak it has outscored its opponents by a 21-6 margin.
On Thursday, Boston defenseman Don Sweeney played in his 1,000th NHL game, all of which have been with the Bruins. Sweeney became just the fourth player in team history to compete in 1,000 games for the Bruins, joining Ray Bourque (1,518), John Bucyk (1,436) and Wayne Cashman (1,027) in the exclusive club.
Boston is 6-1-1-1 on the road this year.
Philadelphia enters Saturday's contest following consecutive ties, including a 1-1 deadlock with the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday.
Jeremy Roenick, who will be playing in his 1,000th game tonight, scored early in the first for the Flyers, who had an excellent chance to win the game in overtime.
Roenick and Paul Ranheim each grazed the post for Philadelphia, but neither was able to pump home the game-winner.
The Flyers, however, had once last gasp for the win when Mark Recchi broke in on a 3-on-1 late in the overtime session and fed a pass across the slot to Chris Therien. But the bruising defenseman, who faced a wide open net, fanned on his shot attempt to keep the game tied.
Roman Cechmanek finished with 23 saves for Philadelphia, which is 5-1-2 on its home ice this season and has won three of the last five from the Bruins. The Flyers are 7-4-2 in the last 13 matchups. However, the Bruins have won two straight and three of their last four at the First Union Center.
