Ottawa, Ontario (My Sportsbook) - The
Ottawa Senators will try for their third straight win tonight when they host the
Buffalo Sabres at the Corel Centre.
Ottawa, after beating the Islanders on Tuesday, handed the Florida Panthers a 3-2 overtime defeat on Thursday for their second consecutive win.
Todd White scored three minutes into overtime to lift Ottawa to the victory. Daniel Alfredsson set up the game-winner and added a goal of his own as the Senators blew a pair of one-goal leads but still managed to improve to 4-3-0 at home.
After Zdeno Chara sent the puck behind the Florida net, Alfredsson raced to the backboards and one-touched a backhand feed to White at the right post. The Ottawa center wasted little time and sent the puck high into the net for the winning tally.
Jason Spezza added a goal and an assist and Patrick Lalime made 24 saves for the Senators, who scored twice with the man-advantage to extend their franchise record of consecutive games with a power-play goal to 13.
Right wing Marian Hossa assisted on Spezza's goal to extend his points streak to five games. He has four goals and four assists during that span.
Ottawa has picked up points in nine of 12 games against the Eastern Conference so far this year.
Buffalo, on the other hand, comes into Saturday's tilt on a sour note after falling 3-2 to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday.
Stu Barnes and Tim Connolly each found the back of the net for the Sabres, who dropped their fifth consecutive game and are now winless in 10 straight contests (0-8-2). It is the first time the club has gone 10 successive outings without a win since a franchise-record 12-game drought from November 23- December 20, 1991.
Martin Biron finished with 25 saves, including 14 in the middle stanza, for Buffalo, which ended the contest 0-for-7 on the power play. In their last five games the Sabres have scored just twice with the man advantage in 29 opportunities.
The Sabres have won three straight from the Senators and are 11-2-1 in the last 14 meetings. Buffalo has also had some recent success in Ottawa, where it has won three of its last four and four of its last six.
