Sunrise, FL (My Sportsbook) - The San Jose Sharks will try to put the brakes on a five- game winless streak tonight when they visit the
Florida Panthers at the Office Depot Center.
The Sharks lost their fourth consecutive game on Friday with a 4-2 setback in Tampa to the Lightning. Patrick Marleau scored both goals for San Jose, which is 0-3-1-1 in its last five contests.
Evgeni Nabokov absorbed the loss after giving up four goals on 27 shots
The Panthers will try once again to top the .500 mark tonight when they host Sharks and attempt to pick up a point in their seventh straight game.
Florida has not failed to pick up a point since losing to the Atlanta Thrashers, 3-1, on November 2. They are 2-0-2-2 in their last six games, doubling their point total to 18.
The Panthers, at 6-6-3-3, enter Saturday's tilt winless in their last three (0-1-2) after suffering an overtime setback to the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.
Florida, coming off back-to-back ties against Chicago and Philadelphia, got a third-period goal from Kristian Huselius to square the game only to see Ottawa net the game-winner three minutes into the extra session.
Huselius, who has points in six straight games, also scored the game-tying goal against the Flyers on Wednesday.
The Panthers' Sandis Ozolinsh scored his first goal since netting a pair opening night and Jani Hurme, filling in brilliantly once again for the injured Roberto Luongo, who turned aside 31-of-34 shots.
Viktor Kozlov was held off the scoresheet, but remains one goal shy of 100 for his career.
Luongo, who has been hampered with a sore back, has declared himself fit to play but given Hurme's strong play he could be on the bench once again.
Hurme is tied for the league lead with a .940 save percentage and is sixth with a 1.89 goals-against average. More importantly, he has gotten the Panthers at least a point in all six of his starts.
On a side note, it is "Roberto Luongo Celebriduck Night" in Sunrise tonight.
Florida leads the NHL with nine overtime games played (3-3-3).
San Jose is unbeaten in the last three matchups (2-0-1), but is winless in seven tries in Sunrise (0-5-2).
These two teams have ties in six of the last 11 meetings.
