New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - The
New York Knicks welcome Latrell Sprewell back from injury when they host the
Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden on Saturday afternoon.
Philly has yet to register a road victory but is a perfect 5-0 in its own edifice. The Sixers are coming off a 99-94 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night. Allen Iverson injured his ankle, but returned to the game to lead all scorers with 37 points.
"I was scared," Iverson said. "I came down on it the wrong way and I knew an ankle isn't supposed to move that way. But I was able to walk it off, get more tape on it and fortunately it didn't bother me."
The Knicks are off to a woeful start and are coming off a 108-87 thrashing at the hands of the Utah Jazz. Clarence Weatherspoon had 17 and Lee Nailon 15 for the Knicks, who are a wounded, struggling team.
"I'm at a point right now where I'm really down and disappointed," coach Don Chaney said.
Allan Houston is playing through a foot injury, Kurt Thomas has a sore Achilles and Charlie Ward may actually miss the game due to a lower leg injury. Obviously, Sprewell's return is a welcome sight.
"Naturally he's going to try to prove 'I'm back and I can help this team win,' which is what I want, but I don't expect any other difference. ... We're very happy that he's back, and it showed," Chaney said.
The Sixers and Knicks met back on November 1 at the First Union Center, with Philadelphia pulling out a 98-86 victory.
The Sixers have won the last three meetings overall and six of the last seven. Philadelphia has also won three of its last four at Madison Square Garden.
Philly is 0-3 on the road this season and 3-3 versus the East. The Knicks are just 1-4 at home and have yet to post a win against an Eastern Conference team (0-6).
