Atlanta Hawks return home from a five-game road trip by welcoming the
New Orleans Hornets to Philips Arena Saturday.
The Hawks went just 2-3 on their western swing, but claimed a 95-83 win over the Los Angeles Lakers in their last contest to snap a three-game losing streak.
Shareef Abdur-Rahim had a game-high 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Atlanta Hawks held off a late surge to defeat the Lakers at Staples Center.
Jason Terry also chipped in 21 points and Ira Newble and Glenn Robinson each netted 14. Robinson pulled down 12 boards, and Theo Ratliff hauled in 11 rebounds and contributed eight points.
Atlanta plays five of its next six games at home, including the next three. The Hawks are a perfect 2-0 at home this season and 1-1 against Eastern Conference foes.
The Hornets are coming off a 105-87 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Friday. Baron Davis scored 22 points and dished out 12 assists to lead the Hornets.
David Wesley added 22 points for the Hornets, who outscored Chicago by 20 points in the third quarter to take control of the game. Jamal Mashburn scored 16 points, P.J. Brown earned a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Robert Traylor came off the bench to add 10 points in the victory.
The Hornets have won six of their last seven games and are off to their best home start in franchise history at 6-0. With a win on Saturday against Atlanta, the Hornets would be off to their best overall start in franchise history at 8-2.
The Hawks and Hornets split four meetings last season, with each team winning once on the road and at home. The Hornets have claimed nine of the last 11 matchups overall with the Hawks and four of the last five at Atlanta.
New Orleans is 1-2 on the road this season and 2-2 against the East. However, the team is 0-2 within the Central Division.
