Vancouver, British Columbia (My Sportsbook) - The
Vancouver Canucks will try and make it four wins in a row tonight when they continue a five-game homestand against the
New York Rangers.
Markus Naslund scored a pair of power-play goals just 34 seconds apart midway through the second period to lift Vancouver to a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday. Dan Cloutier, in his 11th straight start, made 19 saves for the Canucks, who have won three straight and five of their last six (5-1-0).
Trevor Letowski also scored for Vancouver, while Brendan Morrison notched a pair of assists.
Letowski has a three-game goal streak, while Morrison has assists in three straight games.
Vancouver killed off all five penalties in the win and has stopped 83-of-91 opposition power plays through the first 17 games of the season.
The Canucks, 2-0-0 on their current set, will conclude the stand with visits from Chicago and Detroit.
New York comes into Saturday's tilt winners of two straight and four of its last five to climb within one game of the .500 mark (8-9-2-0).
Petr Nedved and Mikael Samuelsson each scored to lead the Rangers to a 2-1 win over the Calgary Flames on Thursday.
Dan Blackburn started his fourth consecutive game in place of the injured Mike Richter and turned aside 35 shots. Samuelsson added an assist on Nedved's goal, as New York upped its road mark to 4-4-1.
Richter was diagnosed with a concussion on Friday and will be sidelined indefinitely. New York will also still be without center Bobby Holik, who will miss his 10th straight game due to a small ligament tear at the hip and pelvis.
What makes the Rangers' recent run even more surprising is the lack of production from the team's two superstars, Eric Lindros and Pavel Bure. Lindros has gone 14 straight games without a goal, while the "Russian Rocket" has failed to light the lamp in his last eight games.
The final period has been an Achilles' heel for the Rangers this season, as they have not scored a third period goal in the past nine games. In the same time frame they've given up nine goals in the final 20 minutes. Surprisingly enough only two were game winners. They also have won two overtime tilts in that span.
The Rangers have dropped four straight to the Canucks, but are 16-8-3 in the last 27 meetings. New York, which has dropped two straight in Vancouver, is 9-4-1 in its last 14 on the Canucks' ice.
