Bilbao, Spain (My Sportsbook) - Diego Forlan scored a hat trick in a 14-minute stretch of the second half, taking over the La Liga scoring lead with 31 goals and leading Atletico Madrid to a 4-1 win over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday.

Atletico Madrid needed the win to maintain fourth place and the last of Spain's four spots in the Champions League. Joseba Llorente had two first-half goals to lead Villarreal to a to a 3-1 lead over Valencia and into fifth place - two out of fourth.

Valencia slipped to sixth, five points behind Atletico, and can no longer catch the fourth-place club. Valencia, which is in financial turmoil, only has a two- point lead on Deportivo for sixth and the final Europa League spot entering the final week of the season.

Sevilla defeated Deportivo 1-0 Saturday to maintain a three-point edge on third place, and joined Barcelona - which lost 1-0 to Osasuna - and Real Madrid as La Liga qualifiers for the Champions League.

Forlan entered the game with 28 goals, one behind Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o for the scoring lead and erupted late in the match to lift Atletico over Bilbao.

Atletico Madrid's Raul Garcia opened the scoring in the 59th minute, but Bilbao equalized in the 68th on a goal by Etxeitia. Forlan broke the deadlock in the 73rd, added his second in the 78th and sealed the hat trick on a penalty in the 87th.

Llorente scored in the 15th and 31st minutes to hand Villarreal the quick edge, and after David Villa scored his 26th goal for Valencia, Cani sealed the match for Villarreal.

Villarreal could finish anywhere from fourth to sixth, but will play in Europe next season.

Sevilla kept Atletico three points back thanks to a 90th-minute goal from Diego Perotti, but could need at least a point next week to secure third and a spot in the group stage of the Champions League.

On the other end of the league, Walter Pandiani scored to lead Osasuna to a 1-0 win over Barcelona - which was resting players for Wednesday's Champions League final against Manchester United - and his club took a big step toward survival.

Osasuna moved out of the drop zone and into a five-way clash of teams separated by just two points for the last relegation spot.

Sporting Gijon got goals from Diego Camacho and Mate Bilic to defeat Valladolid 2-1 and remain even on points with Osasuna, although the club is in the drop zone based on goal differential. Valladolid is in the best shape of the five in the danger zone, two points out of danger.

Roberto Soldado scored to lift Getafe to a 1-0 win over Numancia and one point above the drop zone, while Edu scored to help Real Betis tie Malaga 1-1 and one point out of danger.

Numancia's loss cemented its drop, while Nikola Zigic's goal was enough to lift Racing to a 1-0 win over Recreativo, which ended that club's stay in La Liga.

Ivan Alonso scored twice to lift Espanyol to a 3-0 win over Almeria, which put the club clear of the relegation zone entering the final week.

On Sunday, Real Madrid hosts Mallorca to wrap up the week's action.
