East Rutherford, NJ (My Sportsbook) - The New Jersey Nets have named John Kuester as an assistant coach. As per club policy, terms of the agreement were not released.

"We are very pleased to add a coach with John's experience to coach (Lawrence) Frank's staff," Rod Thorn, CEO said. "He will be a welcome addition for both the players and coaches."

Kuester comes to the Nets with 15 years experience on the NBA sidelines, having spent this past season as an assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons. He has also worked as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers. Prior to joining Philadelphia in 1997, Kuester had spent seven seasons with the Boston Celtics.

Kuester played at North Carolina under legendary coach Dean Smith from 1973-77. He joined the NBA ranks as a third-round draft choice of the Kansas City Kings (53rd overall) in 1977. He played three seasons in the NBA, one each with Kansas City, Denver and Indiana.

In 1983, Kuester became the youngest Division I head coach, succeeding Rick Pitino at Boston University. Two seasons later, Kuester began a five-year stint as head coach at George Washington University before joining the Celtics.
