Raleigh, NC (My Sportsbook) - A pair of red-hot Southeast Division foes faceoff this afternoon at the RBC Center when the Carolina Hurricanes welcome the
Tampa Bay Lightning to Raleigh.
The defending Eastern Conference champion Hurricanes, who are beginning to hit their stride following a sluggish start, are unbeaten in their last four (3-0-1) and have climbed within two points of the Lightning for the top spot in the division.
Carolina had a three-game winning streak stopped in Philadelphia on Friday, as the Canes skated to a 1-1 tie with the Flyers. Jesse Boulerice tallied his first NHL goal for Carolina and Kevin Weekes knocked down 27-of-28 shots in the deadlock. Weekes made his ninth consecutive start for the Canes, and has posted a 7-1-3 record in his last 11 games.
Veteran Ron Francis almost won it for Carolina in the extra session by almost sneaking a shot past the short-side of Roman Cechmanek, but was denied.
The Hurricanes are 4-0-2-1 on their current nine-game homestand, which wraps up Tuesday against Ottawa.
Tampa, which routed Carolina 5-1 earlier in the season, also enters on a winning streak and has won its last two, including a 4-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Friday.
Dave Andreychuk became the NHL's all-time leading power-play goal scorer with his 250th career tally with the man advantage, leading the Lightning to the win.
Andreychuk surpassed current Lightning broadcaster Phil Esposito's career mark of 249 power-play goals, and lit the lamp for the 599th time overall. The 21- year veteran is just one tally shy of becoming the 14th member of the 600-goal club.
Ruslan Fedotenko gave Tampa Bay the lead for good in the third period and Martin St. Louis found the net again to continue his early-season surge. The Lightning improved to 7-0-0-1 at home this season, tying the franchise mark for consecutive home games with at least a point.
Alexander Svitov also notched his first-career goal, Vaclav Prospal collected a pair of assists and Nikolai Khabibulin turned aside 27 shots in the victory.
Tampa Bay has won four of the last seven meetings, but Carolina has won five of nine and eight of the last 13 meetings.
Tampa Bay is just 1-11-3 in its last 15 trips to Raleigh.
