Phoenix, AZ (My Sportsbook) - The Phoenix Coyotes will try and make it two wins in a row on Sunday when they welcome the
Colorado Avalanche to America West Arena.
Phoenix, after dropping three straight, responded with an impressive 5-1 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Friday.
Tony Amonte, Claude Lemieux and Daniel Briere each registered a goal and an assist to lead Phoenix to the victory. Brian Boucher registered 24 saves for the Coyotes, who scored four second-period goals in the win. Lemieux posted his 400th career assist.
Amonte, who also had an assist, has now scored in two of his last three games after going the previous seven contests without a goal.
Mike Johnson and Landon Wilson also scored for Phoenix, which wrapped up a three-game road set 1-2-0.
Johnson has been hot as of late and has 11 points (5g, 6a) in his last 14 games, while Briere has tallied in five of his past eight games.
All news is not positive though for the Coyotes as Lemieux (bruised left foot) and Branko Radivojevic (sprained left ankle) both left Friday's game, but are listed as probable for today's game. Defenseman Teppo Numminen (bruised left foot) and left wing Brian Savage (bruised left thumb) have both been placed on the injured list and won't play until Friday at the earliest.
Tonight's contest will be the start of a three-game homestand for the Coyotes that will also include visits from Dallas and Florida. Phoenix is just 2-4-0 on its own ice this year.
Colorado comes into Sunday's tilt on a losing note after a dropping a 4-2 decision to the Dallas Stars on Friday.
Joe Sakic notched a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who had a two-game winning streak stopped. It was also Colorado's first lost in regulation on the road this season (5-1-1-2).
Sakic, who is now six goals shy of 500 for his career, continues to lead the way for Colorado with 11 goals and 11 assists.
Patrick Roy stopped 18 shots in defeat. He also set another NHL record, surpassing Hall of Famer Terry Sawchuk for the most minutes played. However, in his last three starts Roy has allowed 12 goals.
Roy owns an 23-8-3 record against the Coyotes franchise with three shutouts and a 2.30 goals-against average.
Radim Vrbata tallied the other goal for the Avs, who ended the game 1-for-7 with the extra skater.
Colorado has won three of the last four meetings, five of the last seven and seven of the last 11.
It has been a different story in Arizona though, as the Coyotes have taken three of the last five and are 5-3-1 in the last nine on their home ice.
