Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - The
Atlanta Thrashers will try and get back on the winning track when they continue their six-game homestand against the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim at Philips Arena.
Atlanta, which opened the season with nine straight losses, had its franchise- record-tying three-game winning streak stopped on Friday by the Phoenix Coyotes, who routed the Thrashers, 5-1.
Dany Heatley scored the lone goal for Atlanta, which has improved to 4-10-1-1, but still is firmly entrenched in the cellar of the Southeast Division with 10 points.
Pasi Nurminen stopped 10 of 15 shots for Atlanta. Milan Hnilicka replaced him in the third and turned aside all 17 shots he faced.
Help is on the way though, as the team acquired forward Marc Savard from the Calgary Flames on Friday.
Savard had posted three points -- one goal and two assists -- in 10 games for the Flames. He tallied 14 goals and 33 points last season, despite missing 25 games due to injury.
In 319 career NHL contests, Savard has recorded 70 goals and 205 total points. His best season was the 2000-01 campaign, when he posted career highs of 23 goals and 42 assists.
Anaheim comes into Sunday's tilt on the heels of a 2-1 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Friday.
Petr Sykora gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead with his sixth goal of the season.
After a scoreless opening period, Anaheim started the scoring midway through the second when Sykora banged home a rebound from the top of the crease. Detroit goaltender Curtis Joseph was able to kick out a wrister by Andy McDonald, but he lay helpless on the ice as Sykora followed up to bury the loose puck in the back of the net.
The Red Wings then evened the game in the third period and won it with 21 seconds remaining in overtime, despite a brilliant effort from goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere
Giguere, who robbed Detroit's Dmitri Bykov with an unbelievable diving glove save, stood on his head for most of the contest and kept the Ducks in the game by knocking down 43 of the 45 shots he was peppered with.
Anaheim has won three straight and four of the five meetings, and has outscored Atlanta 22-6 in the five meetings.
