Nashville, TN (My Sportsbook) - Pittsburgh quarterback Tommy Maddox left Sunday's 31-23 loss to the Tennessee Titans with a potentially serious head/neck injury. Maddox was injured on the final play of the third quarter as he attempted to scramble out of the pocket. While falling to the ground and throwing the ball away, he was hit high by Keith Bullock and laid motionless on the field. Maddox was immobilized on a stretcher after a long delay and was taken off the field in an ambulance. However, he did appear conscious and alert. "I don't have any information in regards to Tommy," said Pittsburgh head coach Bill Cowher after the game. "The preliminary reports we are getting are positive. He is getting some feeling back in his upper extremities. I don't have any more information on that. It really puts things in perspective." The former MVP of the now-defunct XFL, Maddox replaced Kordell Stewart, who had started 30-straight games for the Steelers, in week five. He turned around a struggling Pittsburgh offense with his play and threw for an astonishing 473 yards last Sunday against Atlanta. Maddox was drafted by Denver in 1992 (25th overall) after leaving college following his sophomore season at UCLA. He played four years in the NFL with the Broncos, Rams and Giants before getting back into the league with the Steelers last season.
