Denver, CO (My Sportsbook) - Denver Broncos starting quarterback Brian Griese has been ruled out for Sunday night's home game against the Indianapolis Colts because of a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan said on Monday that Griese doesn't have a lot of swelling in the knee, but the quarterback could be out up to three weeks. An MRI showed Griese has a second-degree sprain of the MCL, but the ligament is expected to heal without surgery. Griese was forced to leave Sunday's 31-9 win over Seattle due to the injury. He completed 17-of-27 passes for 194 yards with an interception, but was injured in the third quarter on a low hit by Rocky Bernard and did not return. Bernard was called for a personal foul on the play because officials felt he was going for Griese's knee. Steve Beuerlein relieved Griese and was 2-for-2 for 15 yards with two TD passes in the win. Beuerlein is expected to start against the Colts. It will mark the 37-year-old's first start since the first game of the 2000 season when he played for Carolina. In 10 games this season, Griese has thrown for 2,603 yards with 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
