Calgary, Alberta (My Sportsbook) - The Detroit Red Wings will try to extend their season-high win streak to five games when they play the struggling
Calgary Flames tonight at the Saddledome.
Detroit won its fourth straight game on Saturday. The Red Wings have not lost since November 5. On Saturday, Kirk Maltby and Henrik Zetterberg scored third- period goals to give the Red Wings a 2-1 victory over Toronto in a matchup of two of the NHL's original six teams.
Toronto native Manny Legace, playing in place of starter Curtis Joseph, stopped 11 shots in the first period and had 16 saves through two periods for Detroit. Legace's shutout bid was spoiled by a goal with 10 seconds left and he finished with 30 saves.
The Red Wings finished 0-for-2 on the power play, while Toronto failed in four opportunities with the extra-skater. Maltby has four goals this season, all shorthanded. Detroit leads the league with seven short-handed goals this season.
Some Detroit players are approaching career milestones. Luc Robitaille needs two points to reach 1,300. Kris Draper needs two assists to reach the 100 plateau.
Detroit performed very well on the road last season posting a 23-10-5-3 record in 41 games. So far in the 2002-03 season the club has a 4-3-0 record in seven games away from Detroit.
The Red Wings have scored 22 goals on the road and have allowed 20 against.
In seven road games this season Detroit has killed 33 penalties while playing shorthanded 39 times -- allowing six power play goals against (84.6 percent).
Calgary enters tonight's game off its fifth straight loss, 1-0 to the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.
Jamie McLennan stopped 23 shots for the Flames, who dropped their fifth straight game. Since beating the New Jersey Devils on November 5, the Flames have produced just two goals during their current skid.
Jarome Iginla, last season's scoring champ, finished with only three shots on net and has lit the lamp just four times in 18 games this year. He needs one assist to reach 200 career assists.
The Flames were 0-for-3 on the power play and have now gone six games without scoring a goal on the man-advantage (0-for-20).
These teams met on October 21, and the Red Wings cruised to a 4-0 win. Detroit has lost five of the past eight meetings and has lost three straight at Calgary. The Flames are 1-4-3-1 at home this year.
