New Jersey Nets take on the
Boston Celtics for the first time since last year's Eastern Conference Finals when the teams meet at FleetCenter Wednesday.
The Nets defeated the Celtics in six games in last season's heated conference finals to earn to their first-ever appearance in the NBA Finals, where they were swept by the Los Angeles Lakers.
New Jersey has won three of its last four games, most recently topping the Denver Nuggets at home on Monday, 99-79.
Jason Kidd scored 24 points and handed out five assists, as the Nets cruised to the victory. Kerry Kittles and Kenyon Martin each added 15 points for New Jersey.
Richard Jefferson collected 13 points and eight rebounds for the Nets, who never trailed in the contest. New Jersey shot a season-high 54 percent from the floor (38-of-70) and ended 8-of-13 from three-point range.
The Nets are just 2-2 on the road this season and 4-2 against the Eastern Conference, including 2-0 within the Atlantic Division. The Nets lead the Atlantic by one game over Philadelphia.
The Celtics have dropped two in a row after winning six straight. Boston is coming off a 104-85 defeat at Milwaukee on Saturday.
Paul Pierce and Antoine Walker each had 28 points for the Celtics. Pierce, who grabbed 12 rebounds, and Walker were the only Boston scorers in double digits.
Boston trailed 86-78 with 8:20 remaining, but Milwaukee closed out the game with an 18-7 run to seal the victory.
The Celtics are 3-2 at home this season and 3-3 versus the East, including a 2-1 mark in their own division.
New Jersey claimed the first regular season meeting with Boston last season before the Celtics won the final three -- two in New Jersey. Overall, Boston has won seven of the last eight matchups with the Nets. New Jersey has dropped five of its last six at Boston.
