(My Sportsbook) - The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim wrapped up a five-game road trip Tuesday night with a 3-2 overtime setback to the
New York Rangers.
However, the Ducks finished the trek without a regulation loss (2-0-0-3) and earned a point in their eighth straight game (5-0-0-3) to pull within six points of Pacific Division-leading Dallas.
"This is the quarter pole, we're in the [Stanley Cup playoff] hunt, and we think we've gotten better," head coach Mike Babcock told the Orange County Register.
Anaheim, which got off to a horrendous start, was just 3-5-3 in the month of October and was floundering near the basement of the Western Conference after a 4-3 loss to San Jose on November 3.
Then a 2-1 win over the Nashville Predators two days later kicked off a three- game winning streak and the team has not lost in regulation since the defeat to the Sharks.
The Ducks, 6-1-1-3 in their last 11, seemed to be headed towards a win to close out their trip on Tuesday after rallying from two down to even the game with the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
However, Pavel Bure's marker 57 seconds into the extra session sent the Ducks home on a losing note, but with a hard-fought point nonetheless.
"I was disappointed to give that one up," Babcock said. "Any time you get a point on the road it's a good point, and yet it leaves you wanting."
On a sour note, Anaheim will be without forward Mike LeClerc for the next three-to-four weeks after he underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn lateral meniscus and clean up loose cartilage in his left knee.
"When you go into the knee, in most cases anyway, it's [at least] three weeks," general manager Bryan Murray said.
Leclerc, who has missed the last two games, is fifth in team scoring with 11 points and will likely sit at least 10 games.
"When teams lose top-six forwards, nobody can replace them," Murray added.
WHAT'S AHEAD
Anaheim returns home for the next five games and will be visited by Dallas, Florida, Phoenix, Los Angeles and Chicago.
