Charlotte, NC (My Sportsbook) - The Carolina Panthers released starting offensive tackle Chris Terry. The move comes after Terry turned himself into authorities Wednesday morning, one day after he failed to appear in court on a misdemeanor charge of assaulting his wife. "(Head coach) John Fox and I met with Chris Terry and told Chris that we thought it was best that we release him," said Panthers general manager Marty Hurney. "Our decision was based on a series of occurrences involving the player and the club." Terry, who had been free on $2,500 bond to guarantee he would come to court to face the charge on Tuesday, had to post a $15,000 secured bond to be released on Wednesday. A warrant had been issued for his arrest after Tuesday's no- show. Police charged Terry in July after his wife alleged that he had pushed her into a wall during an argument. Terry also has a protection order against him, keeping him away from their home, as well as the school and day-care centers attended by their children. Terry had started 57 of 58 games in his three-year career with Carolina, including all 10 this season. He was originally the Panthers' second round selection in the 1999.
