Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - The Atlanta Thrashers placed defenseman Richard Smehlik on injured reserve Wednesday. He is expected to miss two-to- four weeks with a groin strain. The 32-year-old Smehlik has one goal, three assists and 12 penalty minutes in 16 games with the Thrashers this season. In 60 games with Buffalo last season, the nine-year NHL veteran tallied three goals and six assists. He had 47 goals, 135 assists, a plus-67 rating and 399 penalty minutes in 589 NHL games over nine seasons with the Sabres. Smehlik was a member of the Czech Republic team at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, finishing with four penalty minutes in four games. |
