Arlington, TX (My Sportsbook) - Longtime Texas Rangers hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo has declined the club's offer to return for the 2010 season. Jaramillo has been the Rangers' hitting coach since 1995 and developed a reputation as one of the best in the business. Under his guidance, Rangers hitters won 17 Silver Slugger Awards, four MVPs and three home run titles. This past season the Rangers ranked 10th in baseball in runs (784) and fourth in slugging (.445), but were worse than league average in both on-base percentage (.320) and batting average (.260). "Rudy Jaramillo has been a consummate professional and great asset to the Rangers, and we wish him luck in his future endeavors," Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. While Jaramillo will not be part of manager Ron Washington's staff next season, those returning for 2010 are bench coach and catching instructor Jackie Moore, pitching coach Mike Maddux, third-base coach and infield instructor Dave Anderson, first-base coach and baserunning instructor Gary Pettis and bullpen coach Andy Hawkins. Texas finished with an 87-75 record in 2009, in second place in the AL West. |
