(My Sportsbook) - The superstars of the
New York Rangers finally got it going Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden and led their team to a victory.
Eric Lindros tallied for the first time in 15 games and Pavel Bure stopped an eight-game point drought with the game-winning goal in overtime, as the Blueshirts skated off with a 3-2 victory over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim at Madison Square Garden.
"Eric was hard on the puck and scored a goal with great second and third effort," said assistant coach Jim Schoenfeld, who helped run the team in place of Bryan Trottier, who was sidelined with a bad back. "Pavel showed a burst of speed in overtime that we've been expecting. I think it gives our entire team a lift and sort of puts everything in the right order."
It was just the second time all season the two had scored in the same game and the first since October 17 when Lindros scored twice and Bure added a goal. In fact that was the last time Lindros scored.
"Sooner or later it's going to go in," Lindros said. "I'm not going to lie and say I wasn't frustrated."
Leading by one, Lindros made it a two-goal game towards the end of the first period with his third tally of the season, putting an end to the longest drought of his career.
The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder overpowered Vitaly Vishnevski on the forecheck, then stripped a defenseman of the puck before slipping it past Anaheim netminder Jean-Sebastien Giguere.
"Typical Lindros goal," captain Mark Messier said. "Hard on the forecheck, beating someone out of the corner and carrying someone on his back to the front of the net."
In typical Rangers fashion they blew the lead and went to overtime where Bure won it with a spectacular goal.
Petr Nedved sent a pass to free Bure, who raced past three Anaheim defenders then cut hard to the net and beat Giguere 57 seconds into the extra session for his first goal in 10 games. The triumph gave the Blueshirts a three-game winning streak at the Garden.
"Sometimes you try to beat five guys and it happens, but obviously not very often," Bure, who also had an assist, said.
Messier also tallied his team-leading ninth goal of the season for New York, which got another outstanding effort from 19-year-old netminder Dan Blackburn, who made 32 saves in his sixth straight start in place of the concussed Mike Richter. Blackburn is now 4-2 with a 2.93 goals-against average since Richter went down.
"He's played so strong for us since Mike has been out," Lindros said. "He's on a roll and we're lucky to have him."
