Tampa, FL (My Sportsbook) - The
New York Islanders continue a five-game road trip tonight when they visit the
Tampa Bay Lightning at the St. Pete Times Forum.
New York is 1-1-1 on the swing thus far, including Wednesday night's 3-3 tie in Sunrise against the Panthers. Despite outshooting Florida by a 42-24 margin, the Isles needed Kenny Jonsson's goal midway through the third period to salvage the point. Claude Lapointe and Alexei Yashin also tallied, while Chris Osgood finished with 21 saves.
The Islanders, who outshot the Panthers, 7-1 in OT, still reside in the Atlantic Division basement with 14 points -- six below the fourth-place Penguins.
New York, 2-4-2 on road ice, will wrap up its current trip on Saturday against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
Tampa Bay, meanwhile, hopes to get back on track after having a three-game winning streak quelled in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Philadelphia. Reigning NHL Player of the Week Nikolai Khabibulin shined with 29 saves but the Bolts weren't able to recover from a second-period Flyers onslaught that included 17 shots and two goals.
Vincent Lecavalier and Sheldon Keefe scored in the losing cause, as Tampa Bay suffered its first regulation loss at home (7-1-0-1). Lecavalier's 10 goals this season place him second to Martin St. Louis, who has netted 11.
On the milestone watch, captain Dave Andreychuk remains one goal shy of becoming the 14th member of the NHL's 600-goal club. The 39-year-old already made some history last Friday when he scored his 250th career power-play goal and surpassed Hall of Famer Phil Esposito for first place on the all-time list in that category. Five of Andreychuk's six goals this season have been scored with the man-advantage.
Tampa Bay concludes a brief homestand tonight, and will visit New Jersey on Saturday.
The Islanders swept four games from the Bolts last season, and outscored them by a 15-5 margin. New York is 7-2-1 in the last 10 meetings overall, and has won two-in-a-row in Tampa.
