(My Sportsbook) - After rallying from two goals down against the
Colorado Avalanche on Sunday, the Phoenix Coyotes once again found themselves in the unfortunate position of being two down versus a Western Conference powerhouse on Wednesday.
"We had to come back from another two-goal deficit, but we were able to do it against Colorado [on Sunday] and Dallas tonight, and those are two of the top teams in the league," defenseman Paul Mara told the Arizona Republic. "I think we're showing character by coming back and salvaging a point in each of these last two games."
The Stars streaked out to a 2-0 first period lead, but once again the Coyotes showed resiliency and eventually rallied for a 2-2 tie to remain unbeaten in their last three (1-0-2).
"The energy level and execution were better," coach Bob Francis said. "The last three games we started playing with some urgency."
Things could have gone the other way in a hurry on Wednesday, as Phoenix saw itself in the two-goal hole and a man down for four minutes in the second period.
However, the Coyotes' penalty-killers answered the bell and just after the kill, Deron Quint scored from the high slot to draw Phoenix within a goal.
The Coyotes put 10 shots on net in the final 8:17 of the second and squared the game just before the buzzer when Danny Markov jammed home Mike Johnson's rebound.
"It came through traffic, and I couldn't quite squeeze it between my arm and leg," said Dallas netminder Ron Tugnutt. "I definitely don't like leaving the ice right after a goal."
Brian Boucher did an outstanding job between the pipes for the Coyotes to keep them in the game and finished with 36 saves after allowing a pair of goals on the Stars' first 11 shots.
In the overtime Boucher stopped seven shots, including four during a Dallas power play that began with 2:43 left.
WHAT'S NEXT
Phoenix will close out its three-game homestand on Friday versus Florida, then will hit the road for a pair of games against Dallas and Anaheim.
