Atlanta, GA (My Sportsbook) - The Atlanta Braves and starting pitcher Tim Hudson officially agreed upon a three-year contract extension on Thursday. The announcement of the new deal, which the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting to be worth almost $9 million annually and includes a club option for 2013, was initially delayed for insurance purposes, as Hudson's surgically-repaired right elbow needed be tested. Hudson, 34, posted a 2-1 record with a 3.61 earned run average in seven starts for the Braves last season after returning from Tommy John surgery in August 2008. "We are excited to have Tim back as a big part of our club the next three years," said Braves executive vice president and general manager Frank Wren. "As we maintain the strength of our team, which is the starting pitching, Tim provides veteran leadership that is invaluable to our young pitchers." The Georgia native has a career 148-78 mark and 3.49 ERA over 310 starts with Oakland and the Braves since breaking into the majors in 1999.
