(My Sportsbook) - The
Miami Heat try to continue their recent mastery of the
Washington Wizards this evening when the Southeast Division foes square off at AmericanAirlines Arena.
Miami, which has already beaten Washington twice this season, has won its last six and nine of its last 13 against the Wizards. Washington has also struggled in South Beach, where they have lost 11 of 13 and 13 of its previous 16, and hasn't won there since March 21, 2008.
The Heat enter tonight's tilt after one of their biggest wins of the season. Down two against Orlando with time running out, Dwyane Wade's jumper was off the mark, but Michael Beasley dunked the miss with 1.6 seconds left, lifting Miami to a thrilling 99-98 victory.
"I am going to stop lying," he said. "That was just a great play by Mike. That was a very athletic play and he did exactly what the coaches told him. He said for everybody to crash when I got to the basket and shoot it."
Wade scored 16 of his team-high 24 points in the final quarter, but it was Beasley's heroics at the end that catapulted the Heat to their second straight victory after a three-game slide.
Miami has won three in a row on two other occasions this season.
Beasley finished with 15 points and 12 boards, while Jermaine O'Neal contributed 13 points and 16 rebounds. James Jones also had 16 points for Miami before fouling out.
Miami scored 16 in a row at one point in the final quarter, but the big difference down the stretch was free throw shooting. The Heat made all 11 of their attempts in the last quarter, while the Magic went 6-of-12.
Miami will close a brief two-game homestand on Sunday. It is 6-3 in its building this season.
Washington, meanwhile, comes into tonight's division battle on the heels of a rare, but heavy-hearted win on Tuesday. Just hours after the death of Wizards owner Abe Pollin, Antawn Jamison scored 19 of his season-high 32 points in the second half, helping the Wizards to a 108-107 win over Philadelphia.
"We knew it was another important game, but we wanted to get the win for Mr. Pollin," said Jamison. "Every game we knew he was watching. Every game we play from now on we know he's going to be watching as well, but from a better place. It was tough."
Nick Young totaled 20 points and Gilbert Arenas 17 with a game-high eight assists, as the Wizards pulled out only their second win in the last 10.
Washington is just 1-6 away from home this season.
