Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - The
Toronto Raptors try to snap a three- game skid when they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Sixers at First Union Center.
The Raptors are coming off a 97-95 setback at the hands of the Indiana Pacers. Voshon Lenard had 22 points, and Alvin Williams 21 for the short-handed Raptors. Morris Peterson tied the game for the Raptors with two free throws with 1:41 left, but Jamaal Tinsley made one of two from the line to restore the lead for the Pacers.
Williams later stole a pass from Tinsley with 19 seconds left, but Antonio Davis missed a 12-foot jumper with four seconds remaining. Ron Artest snagged the rebound, was fouled and made two free throws to give Indiana a 97-94 lead with 2.8 seconds left.
"Antonio had a great look," Toronto coach Lenny Wilkens said. "I'll take that every time."
The Pacers then intentionally fouled Peterson, who made his first throw before the Raptors committed a lane violation to put the game on ice.
"I thought we deserved to win," Peterson said. "This is definitely a building block for us. We can compete with the guys we have."
The Raptors had just nine players in uniform. Vince Crater remains sidelined with a quadriceps injury. Toronto signed guard Jermaine Jackson on Wednesday after being granted its second roster exemption this month by the NBA under a special hardship rule.
Philly has won four of its last five games and is coming off a 95-88 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. Allen Iverson scored 33 points to lead the Sixers. Todd MacCulloch had 15 points and 13 rebounds for Philadelphia. Eric Snow added 14 points, Aaron McKie 12 and Keith Van Horn 10.
Coach Larry Brown was impressed with the winless Grizzlies and was happy their first victory did not come at the Sixers' expense.
"I was really impressed with them. I knew it would be a hard game," Brown said. "I just wanted to figure out a way we could hang on. We had some tired guys out there. Allen stepped up, and we had some tremendous defensive stops, and we got a win."
This is the first meeting of the season between the teams. Toronto has won six of the last seven regular season meetings. The all-time series is tied at 13-13.
