New Orleans Hornets attempt to remain unbeaten at home this season, while the
New York Knicks try for their first road win of the year when the teams face off Friday at New Orleans Arena.
The Hornets pulled out a tough 99-98 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday, as David Wesley made an eight-foot jumper at the buzzer to lift the team to the triumph.
The final play was designed for Jamal Mashburn, who missed a fade away shot with Aaron McKie guarding him from the left side. However, Wesley collected the rebound and tossed it towards the basket from inside the paint and it just beat the buzzer.
Mashburn collected 37 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Hornets, who blew a 22-point first quarter lead, but still managed to remain perfect at home through their first seven games in New Orleans.
Baron Davis chipped in 21 points and eight assists, as New Orleans has won seven of its last nine overall.
The Hornets are 4-3 against the Eastern Conference this season.
The Knicks halted a four-game losing streak in their last outing, defeating the Detroit Pistons at home, 94-91.
Allan Houston and Latrell Sprewell each scored 23 points as the New York Knicks blew a huge second half lead before holding on for the win.
The Knicks, who led by as many as 32 points in the third quarter, won for only the second time this season (2-8), while also avoiding the team's worst start in franchise history after 10 games.
Kurt Thomas added 10 points before fouling out late in the fourth, and Clarence Weatherspoon scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds.
New York is 0-3 on the road this season and 1-7 against the Eastern Conference.
The Knicks and Hornets met back on November 10 at Madison Square Garden, with New Orleans pulling out a 97-91 overtime win.
The Hornets have won two of the last three matchups overall, but the Knicks have claimed nine of the past 14. New York has lost three of its last five road games against the Hornets.
